The turtle is based on John Geilgud in Jonathan Miller’s 1960’s version of Alice in Wonderland. It is animated using Character Studio in 3ds-max. The phonemes are formed using morph-targets.
Sharkey’s Night is inspired by the Laurie Anderson song of the same name. The cigarette smoke is a particle animation based on a Pete Draper tutorial in his book Deconstructing the Elements.
The fireball in the exploding space station is based on another Pete Draper effect. Pete got his inspiration from a scene in the Kevin Bacon film Hollow Man.
The space probe nearing a planet is from a series of animations I did for a BBC Horizon called Destination Mars. This was about the early NASA missions to explore Mars. These missions were in the days before routine CGI, so there were no available NASA animations. I recreated the probes from archive photos and blueprints.
